ChatGPT Health launches in the US with Apple Health integration

Understanding medical information isn’t always easy. Lab reports, medical records, wearable data, and doctor’s notes are usually scattered across different apps and portals. Trying to piece everything together can be overwhelming, especially if you’re managing multiple conditions. That’s exactly what OpenAI is trying to change.

ChatGPT Health aims to bring everything together

Starting today, Health in ChatGPT is rolling out to users in the United States, allowing them to securely connect Apple Health and supported medical records directly to ChatGPT. Once connected, ChatGPT can compare new lab results with older ones, summarize changes since previous appointments, explain medical terminology in plain English, and even relate your sleep, workouts, and daily activity to your overall health. The idea is to spend less time digging through records and more time understanding what actually changed.

According to OpenAI, the new Health experience isn’t designed to replace healthcare professionals. Instead, it’s meant to help users organize complex medical information and prepare for conversations with their doctors.

Interestingly, OpenAI says early testing revealed that more than 70% of health-related conversations happened outside the dedicated Health workspace. Because of that, the company is now allowing ChatGPT to use connected health information naturally across conversations whenever you give it permission.

For example, if you’re asking for restaurant recommendations, ChatGPT can consider dietary restrictions from your health data. Likewise, if you’re planning workouts after an injury, it can factor that into its suggestions.

Privacy is front and center

Given how sensitive health information is, OpenAI says connected medical records and Apple Health data won’t be used to train its AI models or target ads. Users also remain in control of when ChatGPT can access that information, with permission prompts enabled by default.

As of now, the ChatGPT Health feature is rolling out to logged-in ChatGPT users aged 18 and older in the U.S. across the Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans on both web and iOS.
