ChatGPT Lands Inside Excel & Google Sheets as an Add-On
ChatGPT is now available as new add-ons for Excel and Google Sheets, which allows to turn data work into a more conversational experience. Powered by the latest GPT-5.5 model, ChatGPT allows users create, edit, and analyze spreadsheets using natural language instead of manual formulas.
ChatGPT add-on for Excel & Google Sheet available for all plans globally
The new add-ons allow users to create full spreadsheets from scratch, update existing ones, and generate formulas simply by describing what they need. Tasks like creating financial models, cleaning survey data, or drafting business plans can now be handled through natural instructions rather than traditional spreadsheet setup.
As OpenAI notes, users can also ask questions about their data and receive summaries across tabs, along with explanations of formulas and detected errors. ChatGPT shows which cells it references, making its reasoning easier to follow while still keeping changes transparent. With this move, OpenAI is doubling down on ChatGPT’s presence in coroprate setup.
Worth noting that ChatGPT inside Excel and Google Sheets can spot patterns, highlight inconsistencies, and help users understand complex datasets without manually digging through rows and formulas. It also preserves formatting and asks for approval before applying changes, adding a layer of control for users.
The ChatGPT add-ons for Excel and Google Sheets is available globally across ChatGPT Free, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu, Teachers, and K-12 accounts. All that said, it still depends on user oversight, especially for advanced financial models or sensitive data work where accuracy is very important.
