Even though Microsoft has stopped manufacturing Xbox 360 consoles four years ago, the company is still supporting this old generation with (rare) software updates and continued Xbox Live support. If you’re still having fun on your Xbox 360 but considering making the jump to the next gen, Microsoft has some good news for you.
“For those of you still enjoying Xbox 360, cloud saves will soon be free to all Xbox 360 users, making transferring your favorite games to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S even easier,” said Peggy Lo, Compatibility Program Lead at Xbox this morning. As of today, cloud saves on Xbox 360 require an Xbox Live subscription, but this restriction is finally going away.
Considering that Xbox One gamers have been enjoying free cloud saves for all games (including backwards compatible Xbox 360 titles) for years, the Xbox Live Gold requirement for this feature on Xbox 360 had become pretty much anachronic. Once Microsoft makes cloud saves free on Xbox 360, you’ll probably need to manually move your local saves to the cloud on your console.
There’s no clear ETA yet for when this change will go live on Xbox 360, but we’ll let you know as soon as we get more information. Sound off in the comments if you appreciate that Microsoft is still taking care of Xbox 360 gamers after all these years.
