Right now, Copilot is limited to a maximum of around 80,000 words for a single query or prompt when you’re generating a summary in Word. Well, that is about to change dramatically.
According to a recent Microsoft 365 Roadmap note, Copilot in Word will be capable of summarizing documents with up to 1,500,000 words or 3,000 pages. It’s a huge jump from the previous summarization limits.
According to the Microsoft documents, the update will start rolling out in May 2025 for the Word desktop version. Of course, you will still need a Copilot license and a Microsoft 365 Copilot active subscription to benefit from this upgrade.
If you already have Copilot in Word, the icon will appear in the toolbar. If not, you can enable Copilot in Word.
Microsoft didn’t provide any more details, but they provided a guide on how to use the summarization feature in Word.
