Meta has launched its standalone Meta AI app in a move to compete directly with OpenAI’s ChatGPT app and other AI assistant apps out there. The announcement came yesterday at Meta’s first AI event, LlamaCon.

Meta’s advanced Llama 4 model powers this app. The model aims to offer highly personalized and context-aware responses. Posting an Instagram Reel, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, “Meta AI is designed to be your personal AI.

The Meta AI app is now available in 36 countries, offering text-based conversations globally. What’s interesting is that the Meta AI app also has a “Discover Feed.

Meta, in its announcement blog post, explains it as “a place to share and explore how others are using AI.” “You can see the best prompts people are sharing, or remix them to make them your own. And as always, you’re in control: nothing is shared to your feed unless you choose to post it,” the company notes further.

Not to forget, the Meta AI app also replaces the Meta View app, merging AI functionality with management for Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. Zuckerberg says that the company aims for Meta AI to hit the 1 billion monthly active user mark by year-end. You can download the Meta AI app for iOS and Android to try it out.

The company is also encouraging users to try the full-duplex demo

Last but not least, the company also says that the Meta AI app includes a voice demo built with “full-duplex speech technology.” You can simply toggle it on and off to test. Voice conversations, including the full duplex demo, are available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to start.

Meta further explains:

This technology will deliver a more natural voice experience trained on conversational dialogue, so the AI is generating voice directly instead of reading written responses. It doesn’t have access to the web or real-time information, but we wanted to provide a glimpse into the future by letting people experiment with this.
