Copilot's release as an add-on deferred by a month for higher education institutions

In March, Microsoft shared that Copilot would be available as an add-on for higher education institutions from April 1, 2024. Now, the Redmond-based tech giant has pushed the release to May 1, 2024. It didn’t share a reason for the delay.

The official release from Microsoft read,

Earlier this month we shared that Copilot for Microsoft 365 would be available for higher education institutions to purchase as an add-on for their students aged 18+ on April 1, 2024. Availability is now planned for May 1, 2024.

Besides deferring the release, Microsoft is working on expanding the eligibility. While the Copilot add-on is currently only available to Microsoft 365 A3 and A5 license holders, A1 licenses will be included in the coming months.

As for Education customers with Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES) volume licensing, Copilot must be purchased through resellers, Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) and their Microsoft account team, being the two available options.

Eligible customers in China can get Microsoft 365 Copilot via web direct from April 5, 2024.

Copilot has emerged as a popular and reliable chatbot, competing with the likes of ChatGPT and Gemini. In recent months, Microsoft has been integrating Copilot into native products, including Windows, Microsoft Advertising, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, File Explorer and more!

When comparing ChatGPT and Copilot, the latter better serves as a companion for work-related tasks.
