Key notes

  • DeepRapper was trained on a large catalog of rap songs.
  • The raps are complex, vivid, and written in a matter of minutes.
  • Could this kind of music be the future?

Microsoft is investing a lot of funds into AI research. There is Orca 13B a soon-to-be open source AI model, that has shown incredible results. There is LongMeM, which is Microsoft’s answer to the struggles of getting an unlimited context length. There is phi-1, which is Microsoft’s incredibly powerful AI language for coding.

And there is DeepRapper, which is Microsoft’s AI rap-generator music software. Yes, you heard that right. An AI rapper.

Developed by the Chinese Muzic, which falls under The Deep and Reinforcement Learning Group at Microsoft Research Asia, DeepRapper is an AI model that generates rap verses according to suitable rhythms.

In this paper, we develop DeepRapper, a novel Transformer-based rap generation system, which leverages rhyme modeling, rhythm modeling and pre-training for rap generation.

Here’s DeepRapper, Microsoft’s creative rap-generator

According to the paper, the researchers first built a data mining pipeline. This pipeline, which consisted of a dataset with rap songs with aligned lyrics and rhythmic beats, was used to train DeepRapper. After the pipeline was completed, they built a language model that would select rhymes and rhythm models.

The pipeline contained a vast quantity of rap songs, different in structure and composition. After DeepRapper was trained on it, the AI rapper was capable of coming out with complex and high-quality verses.

Even more, the AI rapper has currently generated over 5000 samples, and you can actually see how they look. But so that you know, the verses are currently in Mandarin. However they are translated, and you can actually the complexity.

How can you ignore the reality of your character and never lack arrogance and arrogance? Forge a new ideal, open every farewell on the wings.

Some of DeepRapper’s raps

As in any other creative AI, DeepRapper was trained on a music catalog from the Internet, so the actual raps can contain copyrighted material. However, it’s very interesting to see just exciting the research on AI gets.

With Muzic, Microsoft joins Meta in forging AI models for music creation. Meta also has recently announced MusicGen, a similar AI model that composes music. So it will be interesting to see where this leads.

Will future music be AI-generated? Well, maybe not all of it, but some of it already is. What do you think?
