Double Fine’s Pottery Party Brawler 'Kiln' Finally Gets a Release Date
A new multiplayer title from Double Fine is finally locked in, and it’s bringing a pretty unusual twist to the genre. Kiln, described as a pottery-themed online party brawler, is now confirmed for April release.
Double Fine’s Kiln releases across all platforms on April 23
The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, Xbox Cloud, PlayStation 5, and Steam. It’s also launching day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, with support for Xbox Play Anywhere and handheld optimization.
As for the gameplay, Kiln mixes creativity with combat. Players shape clay into different pot forms before entering 4v4 matches, where two teams compete to gather water and extinguish the enemy’s kiln. The shape and size of each pot directly impacts its abilities, stats, and role in battle, ranging from faster, attack-focused builds to heavier defensive ones.
Steam open beta goes live from April 9th through April 11
Double Fine is also opening things up ahead of launch. An open beta is scheduled on Steam from April 9 to April 11, giving players a chance to test gameplay and provide feedback. The studio says this phase will help shape future updates, including potential additions like more maps, customization options, and game modes.
Early play sessions suggest the game leans into accessible yet layered gameplay. While the pottery system is easy to pick up, it allows for deeper creativity, with players able to design custom builds that affect both visuals and performance. Matches themselves are described as chaotic, with map mechanics like moving hazards and environmental interactions influencing outcomes.
Let’s not forget that pre-orders will go live alongside the beta, with a standard edition priced at $19.99 and a premium “Fired Up” edition at $29.99. The higher tier includes cosmetic upgrades and in-game currency earned through gameplay. To catch you up, the title was first announced alongside Forza Horizon 6 and others, at Xbox January Developer Direct.
