Dying Light Surges Past 50 Million Players; Gets New Limited-Time 'Infected Outbreak' Event
Techland has marked a major milestone for its long-running zombie franchise, as it confirmed that the Dying Light series has now surpassed 50 million players worldwide. The update arrives 11 years after the original game launched, and roughly one year after the studio last reported 45 million players.

That steady five-million jump suggests the series still has strong legs, even as attention begins shifting toward 2025’s Dying Light: The Beast. Besides the big milestone, Techland shared a few eye-catching stats. Players have collectively eliminated more than 30 billion zombies across the franchise, completed over 1.2 billion quests, and earned a staggering 28.3 trillion in in-game currency.
Those figures span Dying Light (2015), Dying Light 2: Stay Human (2022), and the upcoming Dying Light: The Beast. To mark the anniversary, Techland is also rolling out fresh content across its active titles. The original Dying Light will see the return of two fan-favorite events, while Dying Light 2 is getting a brand-new, three-week limited-time event called “Infected Outbreak.”
The event will flood the city of Villedor with larger swarms of infected, including tougher, volatile enemies and two experimental variants created specifically for the celebration. Players must work together in a global effort to stabilize the city. If the community falls behind, conditions reportedly become more punishing for everyone.
Rewards include a special skin that transforms Aidan into Kyle Crane, nodding to The Beast. There’s also a paid “Black Hand” bundle featuring a new outfit, katana, handgun skin, charm, glider cosmetic, and additional objectives. Besides combat, Techland is adding Lunar New Year decorations, new collectibles tied to the broader lore, and extra bounties through the Dying Light Outpost.
While no new details were shared about Dying Light: The Beast, continued support across the franchise suggests Techland isn’t slowing down. With 50 million players already in, the question now is how much further this post-apocalyptic parkour universe can expand.
