  1. Click Partition Manager, then go to the Disk you want to format.

  2. Copy and paste the following commands one by one and press Enter after every command: diskpart list disk
  3. Type the following command by replacing # with the number mentioned for the USB flash drive and hit Enter: select disk #
  4. Copy & paste the following command and press Enter: attributes disk clear readonlyWrite protetion error  CMD
  5. Type the following command and choose the disk number that belongs to the USB drive, and hit Enter: select disk #
  6. For formatting the drive, copy & paste the following command and press Enter: clean
  7. To create & format a partition, type the following commands one by one and hit Enter after every command: create partition primary format fs=ntfs
  8. Type exit to close Command Prompt and restart your computer.

3. Use the Registry Editor

3.1 If StorageDevicePolicies is present

  1. Press the Windows + R to open the Run console.Regedit  Run command
  2. Type regedit and click OK to open the Registry Editor.
  3. Navigate to this path: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
  4. Locate the DWORD named WriteProtect from the right pane and double-click it.regedit_disable write protection
  5. Change the Value data to 0 and click OK.
  6. Close the Registry Editor and reboot your computer to confirm the changes.
  7. Press Windows + E to open File Explorer. Right-click the USB drive and select Format.Format
  8. Click Start and wait for the process to complete.Start

3.2 If StorageDevicePolicies is not present

  1. Press the Windows + R to open the Run console.Regedit 1
  2. Type regedit and click OK to open the Registry Editor.
  3. Navigate to this path: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
  4. Right-click Control, select New, then Key, and Name the key as StorageDevicePolicies.Storage Device Policies key create
  5. Right-click the key, select New, then DWORD (32-bit). Name it WriteProtect.Create WriteProtect DWORD
  6. Double-click the DWORD, change the Value data to 0, and click OK.regedit_Write Protect Disable
  7. Close the Registry Editor and restart your PC to let the changes take effect.
  8. Now press Windows + E to open File Explorer. Right-click the USB drive and select Format.Format
