Edge 138 is here with AI history search, performance alerts, and security fixes
Update the browser now!
Microsoft is rolling out Edge version 138.0.3351.55, and it’s not just a routine update. This release brings AI-powered history search, new performance alerts, and several key fixes, all designed to make the browser smarter and more efficient.
One of the most notable additions is AI-powered history search. It lets you find previously visited websites using synonyms, phrases, or even misspellings. Better yet, the feature runs entirely on your device, so your data stays private. It’s a gradual rollout, though, so not everyone will see it right away.
A few more helpful changes
Edge 138 also adds performance notifications to the browser’s main menu. These alerts kick in when performance dips and guide you toward built-in tools that can help.
Meanwhile, autofill settings now include a new consent option, letting Microsoft collect form field names (like “Name” or “Email”) to improve autofill accuracy, but not the actual data you enter.
You’ll also find:
- A new default behavior for opening links using your Primary Work Profile on Windows
- Copilot summarization tools are built into the right-click menu
- Suggested Copilot prompts on the Edge New Tab Page
- Support for viewing MIP sensitivity labels on protected PDFs for enterprise users
Fixes and security updates
The update addresses multiple bugs, including a WebDriver automation failure and an issue where text fields didn’t reactivate after being re-enabled.
Microsoft has also patched six security vulnerabilities—three specific to Edge and three from Chromium. Moreover, Edge 139 is expected to arrive in the week of August 7, 2025.
