Microsoft Edge tests “Help me write” AI writing assistant in Settings

Edge Canary replaces Copilot rewrite labels with Help me write wording and includes an unfinished AI rewrite panel.

Microsoft Edge Canary now uses Help me write and Help me rewrite labels instead of Copilot-branded rewrite wording. The browser also includes an unfinished AI rewrite panel that is still under development.

The change is visible in both Settings and context menus. You can find it in Settings > Languages, under Writing Assistance, where Edge now shows “Use ‘Help me write’ writing assistant.”

The description explains that the feature can use your input, selected text, and page content to generate contextual suggestions and drafts. This information is processed by AI to provide more relevant results. The wording replaces the earlier “Use Copilot for writing on the web” label. The context menu also replaces “Rewrite with Copilot” with the new task-focused wording, removing direct Copilot branding.

Using plain action-based labels places the focus on writing inside the browser rather than on a separate assistant name. This keeps the feature easier to understand and consistent with other built-in browser controls.

The rewrite panel opens and shows controls to replace or adjust text. Text generation does not work in the current build. The feature is still controlled by testing or a server-side switch.

Google Chrome also uses the “Help me write” name for its AI writing feature. Other modern browsers use similar plain-language labels.

These changes are limited to Edge Canary and may change before release. Even so, the consistent rename across Settings and context menus keeps AI writing presented as a built-in Edge feature rather than a Copilot-named tool.
