Fable May Not Launch in 2026 After All, Xbox Insider Hints at 2027 Release
It's a long wait for fans
Microsoft’s reboot of Fable might be drifting even further from its last known release window. While the company previously confirmed the game had slipped to 2026, a new update suggests fans may need to wait another year.
During a recent XboxEra podcast, insider Shpeshal Nick said that two of his sources believe Fable might not launch until 2027. The delay isn’t due to development issues, according to him, it’s just taking longer than expected.
This lines up with what Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan said earlier this year when he confirmed the 2025 target was being pushed to 2026. “We’re actually going to give Fable more time,” he said. “It’s definitely worth the wait.”
For the uninitiated, Fable was first announced back in 2020. If the game actually launches in 2027, that’ll be a seven-year gap between reveal and release. It’s a long wait, but it’s become a pattern in AAA development, where games often miss their original timelines. For example, GTA 6 was originally hyped for fall 2025. That’s now coming in late spring 2026.
Unlike the doomed Perfect Dark reboot, which lost its studio earlier this year, Fable still has a strong team behind it. Playground Games, best known for Forza Horizon, continues to lead the project.
So far, there’s been no official update from Microsoft about a second delay. But if Fable really is slipping to 2027, fans might be in for a much longer wait than expected.
