Mozilla is working to get weather information in Firefox right from the New Tab Page. The company which previously blocked Protect content playback in Private windows, now allows, for instance, it supports Playing Netflix videos in Private browsing mode. These features are being tested in Nightly.

Weather Widget on New Tab Page

Following the recent addition of Wallpapers to the New Tab Page, Firefox is now adding the Weather widget. Yes, whether to become another new tab Page feature in Firefox in addition to displaying most visited sites, recommended stores from Pocket, Acitivy on recent sites, and content.

Firefox is introducing a Weather Widget on the New Tab Page. This feature displays weather information for your region, including the current temperature and conditions.
By default, the temperature is shown in Fahrenheit, but you can switch to Celsius if you prefer.

Firefox allows us to hide the weather on the new Tab Page. For that, click the three-dot icon next to the Weather card on the NTP and select “Hide weather on New Tab.”

Alternatively, click the gear icon at the extreme right of the NTP, scroll down, and uncheck the “Weather” option.

How to enable Weather on New Tab Page in Firefox

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Visit about:config
  3. Change the following Preferences values to true
    browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.showWeather
    browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.system.showWeather

Firefox 128 to support Netflix video playback in Private browsing mode

Previously, Firefox did not support playing protected content (such as Netflix videos) in Private Browsing Mode.
However, starting from version 128, Firefox allows users to watch Digital Rights Management (DRM) content in Private windows.
If you’re a Netflix user running Firefox, this is great news! You can enjoy your favorite shows and movies even when browsing privately.

Other than these, Mozilla is adding more new features to Firefox in upcoming versions, such as bounce tracking protection, a dedicated Profile manager, duplicate tab management, the ability to translate selected text, and the option to auto-start Firefox with Windows.
