Gemini AI Can Now Summarize Your Google Drive Videos

If you ever wanted to know what’s in a video without watching the whole thing, now you can.
Google’s Gemini AI can now analyze videos saved in Drive and answer questions about them. This upgrade makes it easier to skim long videos, get summaries, and find key moments without scrubbing through the timeline.

Gemini now summarizes videos in Google Drive

With this new feature, Gemini works on any captioned video stored in Google Drive. Just double-click a video and hit the “Ask Gemini” button in the corner. A side panel pops up where you can type questions or use suggested prompts. Gemini then pulls up answers, highlights, and summaries—all without hitting play.

Video summarization using Gemini in Drive only works on videos with English captions for now. If you’re a regular user, those are auto-generated by default. But if you’re on an enterprise plan, IT admins might have it turned off.

Available with AI Premium and Workspace plans

To use video analysis in Google Drive, you’ll need the Google One AI Premium plan, which also includes Gemini in Gmail and Docs. Workspace users on Business Standard, Plus, or Enterprise can already access it if captions are enabled.

Google says this update is about saving time. “Videos contain a wealth of information, but going back to watch them can be time-consuming,” the company explained.
