God of War Laufey's Release Date Moves to May 2027, Santa Monica Studios Confirms Delay

God of War Laufey has officially been delayed, and PS5 players will have to wait three more months for Faye’s adventure. Santa Monica Studio has pushed the game from February 16, 2027, to May 20, 2027. The developer says it needs more time to add the finishing touches and deliver the experience it has envisioned.

God of War Laufey now targets May 20, 2027 as release date

The new date moves the game roughly three months beyond its original launch window. Santa Monica Studio shared the announcement on November 4 through its official social media account.

The studio said it was grateful for the excitement surrounding Faye’s journey through the Everywhen. It also acknowledged the expectations attached to the God of War franchise.

“We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential,” the developer said.

Faye’s adventure gets more development time

Interestingly, God of War Laufey takes a different direction from the recent games. Players will follow Faye, Kratos’ wife, who awakens in the afterlife after her funeral. Her journey takes place in the Everywhen, a realm where gods and creatures from different mythologies compete for power. Faye must also uncover why the natural flow of magic has been disrupted.

Santa Monica Studio previously confirmed Deborah Ann Woll will reprise her role as Faye. Jack Quaid voices Phranque, while Perlina Lau plays Rue. The game also introduces a more agile combat system, blending movement inspired by the franchise’s Greek and Norse eras.

The delay gives the developers additional time to refine this new chapter. However, the studio has not identified a specific development problem behind the decision. God of War Laufey remains an exclusive PlayStation 5 release. Santa Monica Studio says it will share more updates as development progresses.
