Google Gemini subscribers are about to lose access to one of the biggest perks of their paid plan. Google has reportedly started emailing AI Plus users about a major model access change taking effect on November 13. After that date, subscribers will need a more expensive plan to keep selecting Pro models.

Google Gemini AI Plus subscribers are losing Pro models

According to 9to5Google, Google is notifying AI Plus subscribers that Pro model access is moving to higher subscription tiers. The email says users will retain access to Flash-Lite and Flash models in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Google Search. Users can still continue previous Pro chats, but they will need to switch to another model. The change follows Google’s recent restructuring of Gemini subscriptions and model availability.

The change has also sparked discussion on Reddit. One user shared Google’s email in the Google Pixel subreddit, questioning the value of the cheaper plan after losing Pro access. Another user report in r/GeminiAI suggests that many other subscribers have received the same notification via an email, which we have attached below.

Keeping Pro access means paying for a higher tier

The pricing difference makes this change particularly frustrating for affected users. Google AI Plus costs around $4.99 per month in the US, while Google AI Pro costs $19.99 monthly. That means keeping access to Pro models could cost roughly four times as much, although prices vary by region.

Google’s official subscription announcement explains the model availability changes. The company is positioning Flash models for faster responses, while Pro models handle more demanding reasoning, coding, and complex tasks. This isn’t Google’s first move to tighten Gemini usage. The company has already introduced new quotas and usage limits.

As of now, the immediate change concerns access to Pro models, with Flash-Lite and Flash remaining available after November 13.
