Google Brings Powerful Gemini AI Features to Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive

Google has long been pushing Gemini deep into most of its apps and services for a long time now. Now, the company is targeting Microsoft’s Copilot wave 3 announcement by expanding the role of Gemini inside its productivity apps. The company yesterday announced new beta features for Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, which make document creation and collaboration faster and more personalized.

Gemini now helps you write and create Sheets and Slides

Google, in the announcement post, says that Gemini can help you “Go from a blank doc to a final draft.” In Google Docs, Gemini can now generate a full first draft based on prompts and contextual information from a user’s files, emails, and the web. You can then edit sections, adjust tone, or unify writing style across the document using natural language prompts.

The company has also highlighted tools such as “Match writing style” and “Match doc format.” These allow Gemini to make a document’s tone or layout in line with a reference file. This way, it is easier to keep formatting consistent across documents.

In Sheets, Gemini acts more like a colleague working on the same spreadsheet. You can simply describe what you want, and Gemini can generate entire spreadsheets, including tables, dashboards, and organized data. A feature called “Fill with Gemini” can also fill in missing information, summarize data, or pull real-time details from Google Search.

Meanwhile, Google Slides is also getting some assistance from Gemini. The AI assistant can now generate fully editable slides based on prompts and contextual information from files or emails. You can ask the assistant to adjust layouts, match presentation themes, or simplify slide designs. Google is also working on a feature that will generate entire presentation decks from a single prompt.

Besides that, Google Drive is also becoming more interactive with a new “Ask Gemini” feature. Rather than simply searching for files, you can ask questions in natural language and receive AI-generated summaries of relevant documents.

New beta features rolling out to Google AI Ultra & Pro subscribers

Search results may now include an “AI Overview” at the top, summarizing key details with citations from the user’s files. The new features are rolling out in beta starting today for Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers. They are available globally in English for Docs, Sheets, and Slides, while the Drive features are initially limited to users in the United States.
