Google is integrating its AI-powered “Gemini Live” assistant into the Chrome desktop browser. This move follows the successful launch of Gemini Live for Gemini Apps on Android and iOS. An important step in this direction we noticed is connecting Gemini Live to Chrome’s Profile Picker. This allows users to select a Chrome profile linked to their Google account, personalizing their Gemini Live (Glic) experience.
“Choose a Chrome profile to use with Glic. Select the Chrome profile linked to your Google Account to personalize your Glic experience. To add a new profile and use it with Glic, sign in to Chrome with a different Google Account,” says the alleged Profile Picker version of Gemini Live.
Gemini Live to personalize Profiles in Google Chrome
As part of the ongoing integration of Gemini Live into Chrome’s Profile Picker, a flag named ” Profile Picker Glic testing” has been created. When enabled, users are presented with a modified Profile Picker UI. This updated UI suggests selecting a Chrome profile linked to their Google account to personalize their Gemini Live experience. This indicates that Gemini Live on the desktop will likely learn your browsing habits and preferences to provide a truly personalized experience.
The flag “allows testing the Glic version of the Profile Picker” in Chrome on the desktop for Windows, Mac, and Linux, as revealed by the flag and its description.
A commit message reads:”[ProfilePicker][Glic] Create a temporary testing switch flag. This code will be reverted when the Glic view hooks the call to the Profile Picker Glic version as it won’t be needed anymore. In the meantime, it allows for easily testing the Profile Picker Glic version.”
Connecting Gemini Live to your Chrome profile could make it more useful on your computer. This might lead to smarter searches, finding the best results, and even summarizing what you’re looking for. Your browsing experience could become more personalized, with thoughtful suggestions and even the appearance of Chrome customizing to your preferences. Additionally, it could assist you in taking notes, summarizing articles, or even writing code.
All I can say is that Google’s Gemini AI is going to be everywhere in Chrome. It appears in the address bar, protects you from threats via Safe Browsing, and quietly handles browser permission notifications. Additionally, it helps with search history, compares products before you purchase to help you make decisions, and assists in writing short messages on the web.
