Desktop Chrome’s built-in feature, Task Manager, which displays and lets you control processes running in the browser, is getting a redesign after a long time.
Google Chrome on desktop platforms such as Windows, Mac, Linux, and ChromeOS comes with a built-in Task Manager that shows information about processes running in the Chrome browser, including tabs and extensions with details about their Memory footprint, CPU, Network, and Process ID under respective columns.
Just like the Windows 11 Task Manager, Chrome Task Manager allows users to “End process”es that consume more resources to make Chrome more responsive and stable. To open Chrome Task Manager on Windows 11, use the Shift+Esc shortcut or click on Menu > More Tools and select “Task Manager”.
Google Chrome’s Task Manager getting a new look
Chrome supports dark mode for Task Manager. Google is now refreshing the Task Manager design on all desktop platforms. The commit message spotted by WindowsReport reveals the “TaskManagerDekstopRefresh” flag which will be avaialble soon, “Enables a refreshed design for the Task Manager on Desktop platforms”.
The details about the Task Manager refreshed design are vague at the moment. But we can expect a modern interface that aligns with the aesthetic of Chrome with improved dark mode. If Google can update Task Manager visualizations with charts or graphs to represent usage over time with integration of processes into Settings and extensions, that would be a welcome addition.
Task Manager is not only the feature getting facelift; Chrome is also updating Picture in Picture as well PDF Viewer.
Google Chrome is getting Parallel Process launching support on Windows, to show Save bookmarks to Google Account Prompt soon to users, and is addng toast notifications to Reading list.
