Google Chrome to Soon Get Two Security Updates Every Week

In an era where AI is evolving with a rapid pace, cyberattacks involving the technology is also growing. While Google has been quite consitent and fast in releasing security updates for Chrome, it now plans to ship them even faster.

Google wants Chrome security updates to reach users faster

In a Google Security blog published yesterday, the company didn’t just confirm that AI helped it patch Chrome-related 1,072 security bugs. Google also outlined its plan transitioning to a two-week major release cycle with weekly security updates.

That said, Google believes even that pace may no longer be enough. According to the Chrome Security team, the company is now piloting two security releases every week to respond more quickly to emerging threats powered by artificial intelligence.

The idea is closing Chrome’s patch gap

Google says attackers often start analyzing public code changes as soon as security fixes land in Chromium. That creates what’s commonly known as the patch gap, where vulnerabilities are fixed but haven’t yet reached most users running the Stable version.

By shipping security updates more frequently, Google hopes to shrink that window and reduce the opportunity for attackers to exploit newly disclosed flaws. Speaking of future improvements, Google is also researching dynamic patching, allowing Chrome to apply many security fixes without requiring a full browser restart.

The company is also exploring smarter automatic restarts during inactive periods to ensure updates are installed with minimal disruption. Moreover, Google says its long-term vision is a browser that stays continuously protected through faster releases, seamless patching, and automatic updates.
