Google Drive Rolls Out Timestamped Comments for Videos to All Users

If you’ve ever reviewed a long video inside Google Drive, you probably know how frustrating vague feedback can be. Finding the exact scene someone mentioned usually meant scrubbing through the entire recording. Google is finally putting an end to that. The company has introduced timestamped comments for videos on Google Drive.

Google Drive Finally Gets Timestamped Video Comments for Faster Reviews

The new feature lets reviewers attach comments to a specific moment in a video instead of leaving a general note. Rather than guessing where feedback belongs, collaborators can point directly to the exact second they want others to review.

Google says users will now see two comment options while reviewing videos on the web. You can leave a traditional file-level comment or create a timestamped comment tied to the video’s playback position. Every timestamped comment automatically creates a visible marker on the video’s timeline.

Clicking one of those markers instantly jumps to the related moment in the recording. The corresponding comment also opens automatically, making it much easier to understand feedback without manually searching through the video.

Speaking of collaboration, Google hasn’t changed how comments work otherwise. Users can still reply to comments, edit them, resolve discussions, and tag teammates using @mentions. The only difference is that feedback now stays connected to the exact point where it matters.

The update could be especially useful for teams working on training videos, product demonstrations, marketing campaigns, recorded meetings, or presentation reviews. Instead of sharing timestamps through chat messages or email threads, everyone can collaborate directly inside Google Drive.

That being said, there is one limitation. Timestamped comments can only be created through Google Drive on the web. Users opening the same videos on Android or iPhone will still see those comments, although they will appear as standard file-level comments rather than timeline markers.

Google has already started rolling out the feature to Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and personal Google account users. There are no administrator controls or user settings required, meaning the functionality is enabled automatically once it reaches your account.
