Key notes

  • Google is now working with the top PC manufacturers to enhance features on Windows PC for Android.
  • Fast Pair, a new feature that makes it easier and quicker for Windows users to pair with Android devices.
  • Using the new Smart Lock System, Android Wear devices will be able to unlock Android phones, tablets, and Chromebooks faster.

Google plans to work with Windows PC makers to ensure their flagship smartphones are compatible with the most popular operating system on the market.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in 2022, Google announced that it would be working with Acer, HP, and Intel to bring new capabilities to Windows PC for Android.

Fast pair

One of the most exciting developments to come from Microsoft’s annual conference is Fast Pair, a Bluetooth feature that makes pairing Android devices with Windows-based laptops quick and easy.

This includes Android features such as syncing text messages and sharing files using Nearby Share, which behaves similarly to Apple’s AirDrop.

In addition to Android and Windows integration, Bluetooth connection between devices will be easier with the new Fast Pair feature. This will arrive in Windows PCs later in 2022.

Among other announcements made at the annual consumer tech conference, Google unveiled Fast Pair, a feature that is expected to work with more than just Windows.

Windows and Android integration

Windows integration is aimed at helping Android users be more productive, but it is hoped that it will also make the Android experience nicer and easier.

By pairing Bluetooth devices like headphones to other smart products, such as TVs and Chromebooks, Google said users will be able to listen to audio from those devices on their headphones.

The growth in connectivity between devices will be enhanced by Matter, a new standard soon to launch that will improve connectivity between the internet and smart devices.

If you work in an office and you’re responsible for taking notes on a smartphone that you later have to bring into the office to share with co-workers, Windows Phone’s easy file sharing feature will likely appeal to you.

Beyond Fast Pair, Google revealed a dozen other software-related announcements at the Consumer Electronics Show this year, all of which are useful to consumers – although one feature that may appeal to businesses is faster unlocking of devices.

Wearable devices

For years, Android phones have worked with Chromebooks. Now, Google is extending that functionality to smartwatches running Wear OS.

Android Wear devices will be able to unlock Android phones, tablets, and Chromebooks faster using the new Smart Lock system.

BMW will also use the same technology in its cars to unlock the doors when an Android phone is detected.

BMW users who own phones equipped with Ultra-Wideband technology will be able to unlock their vehicles without even taking their cell phones out of their pockets.
