Halo 4 launches on PC today alongside Xbox Series X|S optimized version of Halo: MCC

The PC version of Halo: The Master Chief Collection is finally complete today with the addition of Halo 4. The game is now available on the Windows 10 Microsoft Store and Steam for $9.99, and it’s also available for free with Xbox Game Pass for PC.

Halo 4 launched back in 2012 on the Xbox 360, and just a year before the release of the Xbox One. It was the first Halo game developed by 343 Industries, Microsoft’s new internal studio now responsible for the Halo franchise after Bungie went to work on Destiny. It was one of the best-looking games ever seen on the Xbox 360 back in the day, and it marked the beginning of a new trilogy that continued with Halo: 5 Guardians on Xbox One three years later.

Halo 4 is the last Halo game to be added to Halo: MCC on PC, but the Halo anthology will continue to be supported on both PC and Xbox consoles. Halo: MCC is also being updated today on consoles with the addition of cross-play multiplayer and support for mouse and keyboard input, and players on Microsoft’s new Xbox Series X|S consoles are also getting 120FPS support in Campaign and multiplayer, performance improvements for split-screen modes, as well as FOV sliders.

It’s worth noting that cross-play multiplayer between Xbox and PC will only work in the competitive multiplayer modes, Firefight, and Forge, and not the various Halo campaigns. “These areas where it is not supported are due to the complexities required of updating netcode and issues our test teams found which we would need to resolve in order to get it up to par with what players would expect,” 343 Industries explained in the latest MCC Dev & Flighting Update.

As Halo: Infinite has now been delayed to 2021, now is a great time to revisit the original Halo games which now look better than ever on PC and Xbox consoles. Halo: MCC is free to play with both Xbox Game Pass, and you can now play Halo games on Android devices if you have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
