The whole GTA 6 physical release situation might not be over just yet. Rockstar recently confirmed that retail copies launching alongside the game in November will only include a download code inside the box. However, a fresh report by VGC now suggests that may only be part of the plan.

The report cites a Polish news outlet PPE, of which, insider Graczdari claims Rockstar is preparing a proper disc version of GTA 6 for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, with the physical edition reportedly scheduled to arrive sometime in December.

GTA 6’s code-in-a-box release may only be the first wave

The claim comes from the same insider who previously reported that GTA 6 would not ship with a traditional physical disc at launch. At the time, the report was met with skepticism, especially after Take-Two denied suggestions that a physical version would arrive later. Days later, however, Rockstar officially confirmed that launch-day retail copies will indeed contain only a download code rather than a playable disc.

Now the insider says those code-in-a-box copies are only intended for the initial production run. “Generally speaking, the release with the code will be a one-shot, and the option for a disc release will follow,” Graczdari said in comments published by PPE.pl.

If accurate, that would mean players buying GTA 6 during launch could receive code-only retail boxes, while proper disc editions would begin replacing them later in December. Rockstar has not confirmed that a disc edition is planned beyond the initial November release. Until then, the claim should be taken with a grain of salt. As a reminder, Rockstar has opened pre-orders for GTA 6 and offering a month of GTA+ for free to XBOX and PS5 players.
