Instagram Users are Furious as Notifications Isn't Working Despite Being Turned On

Instagram users are dealing with a bizarre notification problem right now. The app keeps claiming notifications are disabled, even when phone settings show everything is enabled. The user reports are popping up across Reddit, with several users reporting the same behavior on August 19.

Instagram keeps asking users to enable notifications that are already on

The problem appears to center on a repeated warning inside Instagram. Users say the app tells them notifications are disabled, then sends them into system settings.

The confusing part is that notifications are already enabled. Some users say they have toggled the setting repeatedly, restarted their phones, logged out, and reinstalled Instagram.

Other reports suggest the issue is not limited to the warning itself. Some users say certain notifications are missing, while others continue receiving messages normally. That makes the situation look more like an Instagram-side bug than a simple permission mistake. However, Meta hasn’t publicly confirmed a notification outage from the reports reviewed.

Reddit reports point to a wider Instagram notification problem

Some users also report unrelated Instagram problems, including broken cameras, profile errors, login problems, and feed issues. That does not prove they share one cause. Instagram has experienced broader disruptions before.

For now, there is no confirmed evidence of a full Instagram outage. The notification fiasco appears more targeted, but the number of fresh complaints suggests something is clearly off. If the warning keeps appearing despite notifications being enabled, repeatedly changing the same setting may not help. The fix may ultimately need to come from Instagram itself.

We’ll update this article once we hear from Meta regarding the issue.
