Intel Hires Qualcomm’s Alex Katouzian to Head Next-Gen Client Computing and Physical AI

Intel has announced leadership changes, as it pulls in in Qualcomm veteran Alex Katouzian while confirming Pushkar Ranade as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The change at the top comes at a time when AI is starting to redefine client computing.

As part of the leadership change, Alex Katouzian will join as executive vice president and head of the Client Computing and Physical AI Group. His role goes beyond PCs, linking to traditional computing with emerging AI-driven systems like robotics.

Notably, he comes from Qualcomm, where he led mobile and compute platforms. That background could help Intel compete better across connected devices and edge computing. That said, Intel is not stopping there. Pushkar Ranade has now been officially named Chief Technology Officer (CTO)after serving in the role on an interim basis.

Ranade will guide Intel’s broader tech roadmap. This includes areas like quantum computing, photonics, and next-gen materials. Back in recent months, Intel has been trying to regain momentum in AI. These leadership shifts suggest a tighter focus on execution and long-term bets.

Both Katouzian and Ranade will report directly to Intel‘s CEO Lip-Bu Tan.’s CEO Lip-Bu Tan.’s CEO Lip-Bu Tan. This could streamline decision-making at the top level. Speaking of strategy, Intel is clearly linking its PC business with future AI systems. That overlap may define how the company competes moving forward.

It remains unclear how quickly these changes will translate into products. However, the intent behind the shift feels more structured than before. With rivals pushing aggressively in AI and chips, Intel may not have much room for delays. It remains to be seen whether this leadership reset can actually deliver results in the near term.
