Instagram, Facebook & Messenger Down Right Now? Meta Outage Explained

If you’re wondering why Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger aren’t working right now, you’re not alone. Yes, it’s true. Meta’s biggest social media platforms appear to be experiencing a widespread outage, with thousands of users reporting issues accessing the services.

According to Downdetector, reports for Instagram, Facebook, and Facebook Messenger began surging within a short period, suggesting the issue is affecting users across multiple regions rather than being limited to a specific country.

Instagram appears to be the hardest hit

Among Meta’s services, Instagram has seen the biggest spike in outage reports. At the time of writing, Downdetector shows more than 4,200 user reports, with complaints rapidly increasing over the past hour. Users say they’re unable to refresh feeds, upload Stories, send DMs, or even log into the app.

Facebook is also experiencing a significant outage, with reports climbing to more than 3,000. Many users say the website and mobile app are failing to load, while others are encountering login issues and broken timelines.

Meanwhile, Facebook Messenger is also affected, although on a smaller scale. Downdetector currently shows more than 100 reports, with users complaining that messages are failing to send or conversations aren’t loading properly.

If you’re unable to use Instagram, Facebook, or Messenger right now, the problem likely isn’t on your end. Restarting your phone or reinstalling the apps is unlikely to fix the issue while the outage is ongoing.

We’ll update this article if Meta shares an official statement or when the affected services begin returning to normal.

This is a developing story…
