KB5074178 Rolls Out to Dev Channel With Security And Accessibility Updates
Microsoft has rolled out Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.7733 (KB5074178) to the Dev Channel, shortly after releasing KB5074177 to the Beta Channel. The two updates look nearly identical, as they deliver the same features and fixes, but target different Insider tracks.
This build rolls out gradually to Insiders who enable the Get the latest updates as they are available toggle. Microsoft plans to expand availability to everyone in the Dev Channel at a later stage.
New features and improvements in KB5074178 (toggle on)
Built-in Sysmon
Sysmon now comes integrated directly into Windows instead of requiring a separate download. The built-in version allows advanced system event capture designed for threat detection and security monitoring.
It supports custom configuration files so users and administrators can filter which events get recorded, and all collected data is written directly to the Windows Event Log for use with security tools.
Sysmon remains disabled by default and must be manually enabled through Settings > System > Optional features > More Windows features.
Any existing standalone Sysmon installations need to be removed before activating the built-in version.
Voice Access
Voice Access expands its language coverage with added support for the Netherlands locale. This update improves accessibility for Dutch-speaking users who rely on voice commands to navigate and control Windows.
Fixes (toggle on)
File Explorer
File Explorer receives several quality-of-life improvements focused on accessibility and usability. Keyboard navigation and access keys now work more reliably, issues with renaming folders that use custom names have been resolved, and missing icons and tooltips for the Add to favorites option have been restored.
General fixes
Microsoft has also addressed stability issues affecting cloud-based workflows. Apps no longer freeze when working with files stored on OneDrive or Dropbox, and Outlook setups that rely on PST files stored on OneDrive should no longer experience hangs or unexpected reloads.
KB5074178 follows the recent KB5074170 release in the Dev Channel, highlighting Microsoft’s fast-paced Insider cadence. Users looking for a more stable experience may prefer KB5074105, which recently introduced an easier way to toggle Smart App Control.
As with all Dev Channel builds, features, and fixes remain subject to change before reaching stable Windows releases, but this update shows Microsoft aligning Dev and Beta channels more closely while refining security and accessibility features.
