YouTube Knocked Down in Latest Outage, Videos & Shorts Not Working with Playback ID Error
Users are encountering the "An error occurred. Please try again later" message
YouTube users are reporting playback problems as Downdetector recorded a massive spike in user reports. The tracking site showed 22,693 reports moments earlier today, far above its baseline of 27. Some viewers are also encountering the frustrating message, “An error occurred. Please try again later.”
YouTube playback errors leave viewers unable to watch videos
The sudden surge in reports suggests YouTube experienced a significant disruption. Over on X and Reddit, user reports are flooding in. The video playback error shows YouTube failing to load a video. The message includes a playback ID, which can help identify a specific playback session when troubleshooting the problem.
Users experiencing the error may find that refreshing the page or reopening the YouTube app does not immediately restore playback. The problem could involve YouTube’s services, although individual connection or device issues can’t be ruled out.
At the time of writing, YouTube hasn’t confirmed an issue on its side. Instead, Team YouTube has replied to users complaining about the issue with the following response:
