Leaked Xbox Roadmap Hints at Disc-to-Digital Release in August, Xbox 360 Games Targeted for 2027-2028

An alleged Xbox roadmap document has just leaked (via X/@eXtas1s), which reportedly outlines the release timeline of the Disc-to-Digital feature as well as the backward compatibility roadmap for Xbox.

Per the document, the Disc-to-Digital feature is expected to become publicly available in August 2026. The feature reportedly lets compatible Xbox One and Xbox Series X owners unlock a digital entitlement after inserting a supported physical disc. The leak claims that entitlement remains tied to the original disc instead of becoming a permanent digital purchase. That means selling or giving away the disc would also transfer access to the new owner.

Interestingly, parts of the leaked roadmap already line up with recent events. Microsoft launched four original Xbox games on PC and handhelds on July 22, matching one milestone listed in the document.

Speaking of what’s next, the roadmap also lists October 2026 as the target for the broader PC rollout of original Xbox backward compatibility through the Xbox Store and Game Pass.
Xbox 360 games reportedly arrive later

The biggest surprise appears near the end of the roadmap.

The document claims Xbox 360 compatibility would begin rolling out between 2027 and 2028 across “next-generation Xbox devices.”

That wording leaves plenty of room for interpretation. It does not specifically mention Windows PCs. It could instead reference future Xbox consoles, handheld hardware, or multiple Xbox platforms.

As of now, Microsoft has not acknowledged the leaked roadmap. As with every other leaks, we expect you to take it with a grain of salt.
