Microsoft 365 Profile Cards Will Show More Employee Details by Default

Microsoft 365 profile cards will soon display additional employee information by default. Microsoft announced the change through the Message Center notice MC1438571.

Profile cards appear when users click or hover over a person in Microsoft 365 apps and services. The expanded information will start appearing after August 2026.

More profile properties will appear automatically

Microsoft plans to enable several profile card properties that organizations can already use but currently remain disabled by default.

The affected properties include:

• Division
• Role
• Employee number
• Employee type
• Cost center
• User principal name
• Alias
• Fax number
• Street address
• State
• Postal code

After the change, Microsoft 365 will automatically show these properties when the organization has populated them. Administrators will need to disable any fields they do not want employees to see.

Previously, administrators had to enable each property manually before it appeared on profile cards.

Administrators should review settings before August 24

Microsoft recommends that IT administrators review their profile card configurations before August 24, 2026.

Administrators should manually disable properties that contain private, sensitive, or unnecessary employee information. Microsoft notes that configuration changes can take up to 24 hours to appear across Microsoft 365 services.

Organizations should review each property based on their privacy policies, compliance obligations, and business requirements. Fields such as employee numbers, cost centers, addresses, and user principal names may require additional consideration.

Microsoft says the update will create a more consistent profile card experience across organizations. Companies will still control which properties employees can view.

Users cannot change profile card visibility

Individual Microsoft 365 users cannot choose which properties appear on their profile cards.

Microsoft 365 administrators manage profile property visibility for the entire organization. Users who want information removed will need to contact their IT department or Microsoft 365 administrator.

The profile card update follows several other changes across Microsoft’s productivity services. Microsoft recently introduced multiple Microsoft 365 Copilot features in June.

The company also confirmed that an automation bug caused an Azure and Microsoft 365 outage. Separately, security researchers discovered that hackers were hijacking hotel Wi-Fi systems to steal Microsoft 365 accounts.
