Microsoft Brings Design Refresh and Claude-Powered AI to SharePoint in Major Update
Microsoft is celebrating 25 years of Microsoft SharePoint with a major update centered around AI. The Redmond tech giant has announced an AI-powered solution built inside SharePoint, powered by Anthorpic’s Claude, alongside a redesigned interface and expanded governance controls. The company has confirmed that the rollout begins in tenant-level public preview and will expand in the coming weeks.
AI in SharePoint turns prompts into working solutions
The biggest addition is AI in SharePoint, which allows users to build sites, pages, libraries, and lists using natural language. Users can describe what they need, and SharePoint generates a structured plan. This cuts the hassle of manually configuring layouts and structures. Now, the system asks clear questions before creating anything and improves results through follow-up prompts. It works across both new and existing SharePoint environments.

Microsoft has also integrated its previously announced Knowledge Agent directly into the platform. That includes AI-driven metadata tagging, content cleanup, document templating, and contextual Q&A grounded in SharePoint data.

A redesigned SharePoint experience
Besides adding AI to the platform, Microsoft is also giving SharePoint a visual refresh built around three core actions, including Discover, Publish, and Build. You’ll now find a new app bar that improves navigation and allows organizations to pin their Home site at the top. Meanwhile, Discover replaces SharePoint Start with a personalized feed. Publish centralizes communications workflows, while Build becomes a unified hub for creating and managing solutions.

Governance expands to support Copilot deployments
Microsoft is also bolstering administrative controls. The SharePoint Admin Agent now supports natural-language permission analysis, lifecycle management insights, and storage monitoring. Additionally, departmental billing for Microsoft 365 Backup is now generally available, allowing organizations to assign backup costs across teams.

All in all, Microsoft is positioning SharePoint as a smarter, more responsive platform designed to support Copilot and AI workflows inside Microsoft 365.
