Microsoft Edge Will Bring Work Search Banner to Google Results

Microsoft is preparing a new productivity-focused feature for Edge that integrates internal company data directly into search results. According to Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 560823, the upcoming “Work search banner” will appear when users search on both Bing and Google.

Edge Work Search Banner Expands Beyond Bing

The feature targets users signed into a work profile within Microsoft Edge. When enabled, the browser detects relevant organizational content and displays a banner with a direct link to internal company results.

Previously, this capability only worked with Bing. Microsoft is now extending support to Google Search, removing a major limitation for enterprise users who rely on different search engines.

Rollout Timeline and Availability

The feature remains in development and is expected to roll out in June 2026. As with all roadmap entries, Microsoft notes that the timeline is tentative and may change before release.

Enterprise Controls and Policy Management

The Work search banner is designed specifically for Microsoft 365 environments. IT administrators can manage the feature using policy controls, including the EdgeWorkSearchBannerEnabled setting, which allows enabling or disabling it across organizations.

Why This Change Matters

This update signals a shift in Microsoft’s approach. Instead of pushing Bing as the default, the company is focusing on improving productivity regardless of the search engine used.

Users will gain faster access to internal documents and organizational resources without switching platforms. This creates a smoother workflow, especially in environments where Google Search remains dominant.

A More Flexible Edge Experience

The addition of Google support makes Edge less restrictive and more adaptable to real-world enterprise setups. It aligns with broader efforts to improve usability rather than enforce ecosystem lock-in.

At the same time, Microsoft continues to experiment with aggressive Edge promotion strategies, including auto-launch behavior on Windows 11 and incentive campaigns. Meanwhile, Google is expanding its own AI features across Chrome, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.

For enterprise users, however, this update stands out as a practical improvement that prioritizes efficiency over platform preference.
