Microsoft is collaborating with various hardware manufacturers, but it seems that might change in the future.
The company is distancing itself from NVIDIA and it will develop its network hardware moving forward. Here’s what we know so far.
NVIDIA will no longer work on Microsoft’s network hardware
According to the MSPowerUser, Microsoft is developing a new network card that will be able to handle its new Maia AI server chip. This also means that the company is severing ties with NVIDIA.
According to reports, Microsoft is developing hardware that is similar to NVIDIA’s ConnectX-7 card, while offering better performance.
We expect this hardware to benefit OpenAI and its services and improve the performance of Microsoft Azure. This change will also reduce the training time and cost for all language models that are running on Microsoft servers.
With Microsoft’s plans to invest in Spain’s AI infrastructure and focus more on AI, dropping NVIDIA as a partner doesn’t come as a surprise.
Sadly, no information is available regarding the release of this hardware, but we expect that it will take more than a year before we see it in action.
