Last week, Microsoft released Visual Studio Code 1.140, which pushed VS Code further into multi-agent development. Now, Visual Studio Code 1.141 adds another set of improvements focused on agent workflows, security, editing, and enterprise environments.

Visual Studio Code 1.141 makes agent sessions easier to manage

One of the biggest changes is the new Chat: Open Worktree Cleanup command.

The command shows how much disk space inactive agent-session worktrees consume and lets users remove them based on their size or how long they have remained inactive.

Users can also configure VS Code to automatically clean up sessions after their associated pull requests have already been merged.

Copilot gets sandboxing controls

VS Code 1.141 also introduces sandboxing for Copilot, giving users more control over which files and network resources an agent can access while working on a task.

Microsoft says the feature can reduce the impact of model mistakes, prompt injection attacks, untrusted dependencies, and locally launched tool servers.

The change gives developers another layer of control when using agents on projects that contain sensitive files or connect to external resources.

Agent sessions get a resizable grid view

The Agents window can now display multiple sessions inside a resizable grid.

Users can drag sessions into horizontal or vertical splits, compare results from several agents, maximize individual sessions, and then return them to the grid.

The change should make it easier to monitor multiple long-running agent tasks without constantly switching between sessions.

External Copilot sessions now appear automatically

VS Code can also detect new conversations started through GitHub Copilot CLI or the GitHub Copilot app.

Previously, users needed to reload the Agents window before those external sessions appeared. With version 1.141, VS Code detects them automatically.

Users can then open and continue those conversations directly from the Agents window.

Spread block pasting simplifies column editing

Microsoft also added spread block pasting, making it easier to copy and paste columns of rows, which should help when editing structured blocks of code or data across multiple lines.

VS Code supports multiple GitHub Enterprise instances

Organizations using more than one GitHub Enterprise deployment can now sign in to multiple instances.

Administrators and developers can configure them through the github-enterprise.uris setting.

The addition should make VS Code easier to use in organizations that operate several GitHub Enterprise environments.

Microsoft has also been expanding its local and hybrid AI tooling. The company recently made MAI-Code-1.1-Flash available to run locally and is supercharging Copilot on Windows with hybrid intelligence.

Microsoft is also bringing more local models to Windows through HydraFusion and llama.cpp.
