Now that the event has been confirmed to be relocated, it’s easy to assume this unfortunate turn of events has dealt a sizeable blow to Chicago’s technology and tourism industries for that month. As reported earlier, the cancellation will affect more than 50 hotels and result in the loss of 90,000 room nights. The loss could further agitate an already struggling tourism industry in Chicago.
According to information from Windows IT Pro, in addressing this fiasco, Microsoft sent out a private email specifically stating that Microsoft’s developer-focused BUILD conference will not be merged with Ignite this upcoming year.
Other than what was described as poor event timing, it is not yet entirely clear why the event was taken away from Chicago. We will update with more information about the Ignite conference as it comes.
