Windows 11 Personalized offers

Within the constantly changing environment of Windows 11, Microsoft has made a move to clarify its advertising methods, especially for users located in Europe. The technology powerhouse is now changing the name of the “Tailored experience” feature to “Personalized offers,” in Windows 11’s Settings, with the intention that this will make clear what kind of ads and suggestions are being given to users.

This change was noticed by the tech enthusiast @phantomofearth in the newest Windows 11 beta update, which includes some repairs and enhancements and tries out a fresh part called the “Recommended for you” section within the Microsoft Store. This is a small change but important for how Microsoft talks to its users, particularly in a place where digital privacy and advertising methods are observed with great attention.

The change, known as update KB5040535 or Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.3936, displays this Personalized offers renaming in the Settings menu and during out-of-box experience (OOBE). The toggle for these personalized experiences will be located under General privacy & security settings.

Microsoft intends to simplify user options and potentially reconcile with its previous advertising mistakes. The alteration is deactivated as a standard setting, with user permission and adjustment carefully handled.

This step follows Microsoft’s receiving many criticisms about its advertisement actions, and the launch of Recall is a significant public relations mishap. By changing the name from “Tailored experiences” to “Personalized offers,” the Redmond-based tech giant aims for a more straightforward and accessible understanding of its combined advertising strategy.

The update also includes a new feature: a “Recommended for you” section within the Microsoft Store’s search box. This is common in app stores and can be seen as a way to improve user experience by suggesting apps. While some might see it only as advertising, many others do this, too—for example, Apple’s App Store does a similar thing so that users are directed towards apps they could find helpful.
