Microsoft Planner Status Reports

Microsoft has quietly announced Status Reports in the Planner app for Microsoft Teams. The company says it is a new, time-saving way to “eliminate the pain of manual reporting.

This Status Reports feature uses the Project Manager agent to auto-generate clean, professional reports based on your project’s real data. It’s built into Planner and designed to save time, eliminate manual reporting, and keep teams informed at every step.

Once your plan has at least ten tasks and is shared, a new Reports tab will appear in Planner. From there, you can pick a timeframe, set your report focus, and click once to generate a full status update.

The Project Manager agent reads your plan and builds a detailed report highlighting progress, blockers, and next steps. You can customize tone and goals to fit your audience, whether it’s your team, leadership, or a customer.

Every report shows up in a Microsoft Loop canvas so you can edit it live with your team. Sharing is easy too. You can simply copy it into Teams, drop it in Outlook, or turn it into a SharePoint newsletter.

The “Recent reports” section shows your last ten. All past reports are also saved to your SharePoint archive. The Status Reports feature is part of the Project Manager preview. Others can view reports and plans, but can’t generate or assign tasks with the Project Manager agent.

All that said, you’ll need Microsoft 365 Copilot and Loop access to use it. The Microsoft Planner status report feature is now rolling out to U.S. English users and will expand soon.
