Microsoft Quietly Updates Windows 11 25H2 Installation Media With KB5124008

Windows 11 Media Creation Tool now downloads the latest Windows 11 25H2 September 2026 build following Microsoft’s latest security updates.

Following the release of the Windows 11 September 2026 Patch Tuesday updates, Microsoft has refreshed the installation images available through the Media Creation Tool.

According to Neowin, the tool now downloads Windows 11 25H2 build 26200.9445 with KB5124008 directly from Microsoft’s Windows Update servers.

This means users creating a bootable USB drive or performing a clean Windows 11 installation will get the latest September Patch Tuesday update as part of the installation image.

Media Creation Tool itself hasn’t been updated

While Microsoft has refreshed the Windows 11 installation files, the Media Creation Tool itself remains on version 10.0.26100.7019.

The updated images make clean installations more convenient because users receive the latest security fixes immediately after installing Windows instead of having to download the full September update afterward.

That matters more with this month’s release, as the latest Patch Tuesday brings 966 security fixes.

However, installing the latest build doesn’t eliminate every security concern. The ShieldCrash zero-day exploit can reportedly affect fully updated Windows systems.

KB5124008 also comes with several known problems. Some users have encountered USB audio failures after the September update, while the update can also break shared folders in Hyper-V Linux VMs.
