Microsoft released Windows 11 Build 26252 in the Canary Channel. This update has many improvements, with a special focus on the Lock Screen and Start menu, among other places.
Windows users can now get lively updates about weather, finance, traffic, and sports on their Lock Screen. Not only can you drag and drop to pin apps from the redesigned Start menu, but it also lets you do so directly onto the taskbar. These little tweaks make the user experience smoother and more personalized. Microsoft teased this feature, a while ago, but now it’s finally available in the Canary channel.
In the Start menu, dragging apps from the Start menu to pin them to the taskbar is a small yet valuable enhancement. This simplifies customizing your taskbar and improves ease of access for frequently used applications.
The Settings menu also has something new. It shows the evaluation copy expiry date in Settings > System > About, which helps you know when your build will no longer be valid. Another fresh thing is an energy suggestion for switching off HDR to save power on PCs with HDR screens, which can be found in Settings > Power & battery > Energy recommendations.
Certainly, no update is perfect. This build tackles a few problems, such as errors when using Voice Typing with particular languages. It displays variations in the Performance part of Task Manager while dark mode is on. There were solutions for big-sized icons at Settings > Apps > Startup and repeated text at Settings > System > Power & Battery.
The Redmond-based tech giant also acknowledged that some Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels could get stuck on earlier builds, but the company is working on it. However, a clean installation with the latest ISO is suggested if you want to move up to the newest build today.
