Microsoft Rolls Out Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Sol to Copilot Across Word, Excel and More

Microsoft has expanded the AI model lineup inside Copilot. The company says Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 and OpenAI’s GPT-6 Sol have already been rolled out to Microsoft Copilot, giving users more model choices across several Microsoft 365 experiences.

Microsoft wants Copilot to become a multi-model AI platform

Rather than relying on a single model for every task, Microsoft says Copilot is being built around multiple frontier models. The company argues that different models can have different strengths, giving users more flexibility depending on the work they are doing.

That approach also gives Microsoft another way to bring newer AI models into Copilot without replacing the entire underlying experience. Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Sol now join the models already available through Microsoft’s AI ecosystem.

Microsoft is also highlighting Work IQ, which remains an important part of the Copilot experience. The system can ground responses in an organization’s files, meetings, chats and business data, helping connect model responses with the user’s existing work context.

Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Sol are rolling out now

Microsoft says the rollout of Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Sol kicked off yesterday following the launch of respective models. The new models work across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Chat, Cowork and Copilot Studio. Microsoft says availability can vary depending on a user’s license, access and region.
