Microsoft Store Error 0x80244022 Hit Windows 11 Users, Windows Update Reportedly Also Down

Microsoft services had a fair share of outages this year, too. This year alone, multiple services, including Microsoft 365 apps, Copilot, Azure, and several others, faced widespread disruptions. Last year was no different, either. Now, it is Windows Update and the Microsoft Store that have reportedly gone down, leaving Windows 11 users unable to download or install apps.

Windows 11 users face issues downloading and installing apps via Microsoft Store, Windows Update reportedly also affected

The issue surfaced earlier today, with users reporting constant Microsoft Store error 0x80244022, which prevents app downloads and installs. Many users also say Windows Update is either failing outright or getting stuck mid-download. Many also shared images showing repeated Store issues even on clean Windows 11 installations.

The news comes via Windows Latest on X, which first reported about the growing number of complaints and linked the problem to a widespread Microsoft service disruption. Per the news outlet, Microsoft has since acknowledged the outage and confirmed that a power outage at a West US datacenter is behind the disruption. According to the company, the incident affected customers’ ability to complete operations in both Microsoft Store and Windows Update.

While power has already been restored, Microsoft says service recovery is still ongoing. Storage services are gradually coming back online, and some users may continue to see failures or timeouts until recovery fully completes.

Recovery reportedly in progress

In a detailed status update, shared by Microsoft, Microsoft explained that the outage began at 08:00 UTC on February 7, 2026, impacting a subset of Azure customers in the West US region. Backup power systems kicked in automatically, but engineers are still validating systems and rebalancing traffic through Azure’s load balancing layer.

Microsoft says services are being restored in phases as health checks complete. Affected users are advised to retry Microsoft Store and Windows Update operations later, as intermittent issues may persist for now. Moreover, the company has added that it is actively monitoring the situation and will continue providing updates as recovery progresses.
