Microsoft Teams Is Getting Faster Office File Previews on Mobile
Rolling out worldwide in late May 2026
Microsoft has announced a major update for Microsoft Teams on Android and iOS that aims to improve how Office documents preview inside the app. According to the Message Center update MC1310683, the company wants Office file previews to feel faster, more reliable, and more consistent across devices.
The update focuses on previews for Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint inside Teams.
Microsoft Wants Teams File Previews To Feel The Same Across Devices
Microsoft says Office file previews across Android, iOS, and desktop Teams will now use a more standardized experience. The goal is to reduce differences between platforms and make document viewing behave more predictably, regardless of device.
The company also says users should notice faster preview loading, improved reliability, and more consistent rendering of Office files across platforms. The changes could especially help users working with protected documents, large spreadsheets, or slower mobile devices where Teams previews have historically felt less responsive than the desktop experience.
PowerPoint And Excel Improvements Arrive First
Microsoft says standardized preview experiences for PowerPoint and Excel will roll out across both Android and iOS. Word previews will first receive the upgraded experience on iOS, while Android support for the new Word preview experience will arrive later.
The company says the changes are backend-driven and enabled automatically. End users do not need to adjust settings or reconfigure Teams, while IT administrators also do not need to deploy the feature manually.
Microsoft Continues Changing Teams
The update arrives as Microsoft continues reshaping Teams across both consumer and enterprise environments. The company recently confirmed it is removing Together Mode from Teams, while security researchers also warned that attackers have started abusing external Teams chats to deploy ModeloRAT malware through social engineering campaigns.
Microsoft continues pushing Teams toward a more unified cross-platform experience as it expands collaboration features and modernizes Office integration across mobile and desktop devices.
