Microsoft is testing a new feature, titled Hiding of inactive channels, which will automatically detect and hide the inactive channels where there has been no interaction for a while in Microsoft Teams.
The feature’s description in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap says,
Easily keep your channels list relevant. Teams will automatically detect inactive channels you haven’t interacted with in a while, and automatically hide them for you. You have the option to review the list of channels and unhide some or all of them, opt out of automatic hiding from settings, or initiate this process on demand.
The Hiding of inactive channels feature, added to the roadmap on May 31, 2024, will be available for the desktop, web, and Mac versions of the Microsoft Teams app. It’s under General Availability and is expected to roll out by July 2024!
However, there’s a lack of clarity from Microsoft’s end as to what entails an inactive channel. It failed to mention the maximum duration of inactivity, after which Teams will automatically hide a channel. Perhaps it will all be available in the feature’s dedicated settings.
The good news is that you can always review and unhide inactive channels, manually initiate the detection of inactive channels, and disable the feature altogether.
Last month, during Microsoft Build 2024, the Redmond-based tech giant announced a wide array of improvements in Microsoft Teams.
