Microsoft Teams Will Soon Flag Deepfake Audio and Video in Meetings
Microsoft Teams will soon support third-party deepfake and synthetic-audio detection tools that can identify potentially manipulated content during meetings.
According to Microsoft’s AI at Work Roadmap ID 573451, certified third-party security providers will be able to integrate detection solutions directly with Teams.
Teams will detect suspicious audio and video
The integrations will analyze meeting audio and video for signs of synthetic, manipulated, or AI-generated content.
When a detection provider identifies suspicious activity, it can send those signals back to Teams. The platform will then surface meeting controls and integrations that organizers can use to respond.
The system could help organizations identify attempts to use AI-generated voices, manipulated video, or synthetic identities during meetings.
Microsoft says the feature aims to reduce risks associated with AI impersonation, recruitment scams, fraudulent meetings, and other attacks involving synthetic identities.
Microsoft will rely on third-party detection providers
Microsoft is not developing the underlying deepfake detection technology itself.
Instead, Teams will provide integrations that allow certified third-party security providers to connect their detection systems with the meeting platform.
Microsoft has not announced which security companies will support the feature.
The company also has not explained whether administrators will deploy these tools through the Teams app store, tenant-level controls, or another management system.
The third-party approach could allow organizations to choose detection technologies that fit their existing security environments rather than relying on a single Microsoft detection system.
Deepfake detection arrives in November
Microsoft currently plans to make the Teams deepfake detection integrations generally available in November 2026.
The feature comes as organizations face growing concerns about AI-generated impersonation during online meetings and recruitment processes.
In other Teams news, Microsoft Teams can now automatically block identified bots from joining meetings.
Microsoft will also delete Teams Planner plans after 180 days of inactivity, while some Teams Free features will require age verification.
