Microsoft Teams Will Soon Let You Play OneDrive Videos Directly During Events
Microsoft Teams is introducing a new feature that will allow event organizers and producers to share videos directly from OneDrive, eliminating the need for screen sharing or embedding videos in PowerPoint presentations.
According to Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 562340, the feature will begin rolling out in November 2026 and will work with Teams events that use the Manage what attendees see setting.
Teams events will get direct OneDrive video playback
Currently, organizers often rely on screen sharing to play videos during Teams events, which can affect playback quality and create additional setup steps.
The new feature will let organizers and producers select videos stored in OneDrive and play them directly for attendees, providing smoother playback and better video quality.
Microsoft is also introducing built-in playback controls, allowing presenters to pause, rewind, and fast-forward videos without switching between applications.
To use the feature, organizers must store their videos in OneDrive and configure the appropriate sharing permissions before the event.
Rollout begins in November 2026
Microsoft plans to introduce the feature in two stages. The Targeted Release rollout will begin in early November 2026 and continue through early December for Worldwide tenants.
General Availability will follow in early December 2026, covering Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, and DoD environments.
Microsoft says administrators won’t need to take any action to enable the feature. However, organizations should inform event organizers and producers about the new option and verify OneDrive sharing permissions before hosting events.
Administrators can find additional details in Microsoft 365 Message Center ID MC1506734.
The update adds another presentation option to Teams, making it easier to incorporate prerecorded content into live events without relying on traditional screen sharing.
In other Teams news, Microsoft recently reversed its plan to remove Copilot from the Teams chat list. The company is also preparing to introduce impersonation protection in Microsoft Teams.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has also reduced OneDrive storage from 6TB to 2TB for Microsoft 365 Family and Premium.
