Microsoft Unveils New Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 13 With Snapdragon X2 Plus Chip

Microsoft has refreshed two of its smaller Surface PCs with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X2 Plus processor. The new Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch keep the lightweight designs of their predecessors while bringing faster graphics, better local AI performance and improved battery efficiency.

Microsoft says the new models deliver up to 17% faster Office performance, up to 18% better battery efficiency, more than 60% faster graphics and up to 95% faster on-device AI inferencing compared with the previous Snapdragon X Plus models.

Surface Pro 12 gets faster AI and a brighter display

The new Surface Pro 12-inch remains a fanless Windows PC that can switch between tablet and laptop use. Microsoft says it can deliver an extra hour of active web browsing, while its 500-nit PixelSense touchscreen is 25% brighter than the previous model.

The device also introduces Microsoft Ink Canvas, a new pen-focused experience for sketching, annotating, generating images and summarizing text. The feature will come preinstalled on the new Surface Pro and will also arrive through the Microsoft Store for supported Surface and Windows PCs.

The Surface Pro 12-inch starts at $1,149.99 and will be available from October 13 in select markets.

Surface Laptop 13 brings 22.5-hour battery life

The Surface Laptop 13-inch also gets the Snapdragon X2 Plus treatment, along with a 500-nit PixelSense touchscreen, full-size backlit keyboard and aluminum body. Microsoft claims up to 22.5 hours of local video playback, although actual battery life will vary depending on usage and settings. The laptop also gets a new Black finish.

The Surface Laptop 13-inch starts at $1,199 and launches October 13 in select markets.

There’s also a new Surface Mouse

Microsoft has also introduced a new Surface Mouse with haptic feedback, a customizable Copilot button and Bluetooth 6.0. It starts at $79.99 and arrives October 13. For business customers, both PCs will be available through Surface for Business, with the Surface Pro 12-inch also getting an optional 5G configuration.
