After Microsoft officially launched the new Outlook app last year in July, it started installing by default on Windows 11. Now, the software giant plans to force install it on Windows 10 too starting with a new optional update on January 28. If you’re not installing that update, you still won’t escape it because it will be also delivered with the monthly Windows 10 security update on February 11 2025.
Although you can’t help installing the new Outlook app, Microsoft provides the means to uninstalling it right after if you want to. According to Microsoft’s provision document, you will be able to use the Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage cmdlet with the PackageName parameter value Microsoft.OutlookForWindows.
How do I remove the new Outlook from Windows 10 after the installation?
To remove the app, you will need to enter the following command in a PowerShell window:
Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -AllUsers -Online -PackageName (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.OutlookForWindows).PackageFullName
Unfortunately, you will also modify the Registry. For this, open the Registry editor (press Win + R, type regedit and press Enter), and navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\Orchestrator\UScheduler_Oobe\OutlookUpdate
Next, add a REG_SZ registry setting, and name it BlockedOobeUpdaters. Double click on it and set its value of [“MS_Outlook”].
Of course, not many users can be happy when they are forced to use certain apps and the new Outlook app didn’t get a lot of fans, partly because it replaced the Mail and Calendar apps that were pretty popular. However, lately, Outlook received a few important improvements that might eventually sway users into adopting the app.
Certainly, it’s a good thing that Microsoft also provided a way to uninstall the new Outlook for those who don’t care about using it.
What do you think about the new Outlook change on Windows 10? Let’s talk about it in the comments below.
