Minecraft is now available on Nintendo Switch 2 natively
Minecraft is now natively available to play on Nintendo Switch 2 with upgraded visuals, familiar Mario content, and a welcome deal for existing players. The new version takes advantage of the console’s hardware with Vibrant Visuals enabled by default. Better still, eligible digital owners can upgrade without paying for the Standard Edition.
Minecraft Switch 2 brings better visuals and Super Mario content
One of the standout features is Vibrant Visuals, which adds directional lighting, volumetric fog, dynamic shadows, and other graphical improvements. Supported Marketplace content also benefits from the visual upgrade, although some gameplay modes and worlds have limitations.
Nintendo Switch 2 players also get the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack with enhanced visuals. It includes a Mario-themed world, 15 music tracks, and 40 character skins inspired by the iconic franchise.
Players can choose between three digital versions. The Standard Edition costs $29.99, while the Deluxe Collection costs $39.99. The Ultimate Collection costs $49.99. All three include the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, while the upgraded collections bundle additional add-ons and Minecoins.
Existing Minecraft players get a limited-time upgrade deal
Microsoft and Mojang are offering eligible owners of digital Minecraft for the original Nintendo Switch a free upgrade to the Switch 2 Standard Edition. The offer runs from October 27, 2026, at 9 AM PT, through January 31, 2027, at 9 AM PT. Upgrades are available through the Nintendo eShop, with regional exceptions.
Players can also choose discounted upgrades to the Deluxe or Ultimate Collection. Physical-game owners receive a separate in-game offer for a discounted Ultimate Collection when launching the original Switch version on Switch 2 during the promotion.
Your existing Minecraft worlds can carry over
Players can transfer their Nintendo Switch worlds to the new version and continue their builds. This means existing creations can make the jump without starting every adventure from scratch. Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 is available digitally, while the Standard Edition also has a physical retail release.
Speaking of the console itself, rumors suggest that the Nintendo Switch 2 Lite could get better battery life with Samsung’s 8LPU+ chip. Not to forget, Nintendo has already removed SmileBASIC 4 following a Switch 2 jailbreak.
